Open enrollment dates

The next Open Enrollment begins in mid-November, unless you have a qualifying event (i.e.: involuntary loss of coverage, marriage, birth, etc).  If you have a qualifying event, you may get a special enrollment period to buy an individual health plan.  Most special enrollment periods last 60 days from the date of the qualifying event.

What type of plans are offered in the Exchange?

Plans within the Exchange will be standardized for the most part into different “Medal” levels of coverage; you can determine which level is right for you. It is important to note that Provider Networks DO vary quite a bit from carrier to carrier and plan to plan, so let us help you avoid any surprises down the road.

Gold Level

  • Best Coverage
  • Highest monthly cost but lowest medical bills
  • Lowest Copays
  • Best Drug coverage
  • Fits those who require the most benefits and need the best coverage possible

Silver Level

  • Good Coverage – The “Standard” benefit
  • Balanced monthly cost and coverage
  • Higher Copays, some services after Deductible
  • Good Drug coverage, but higher cost at the pharamacy
  • Fits those seeking a balance between good benefits and lower monthly costs

Bronze Level

  • Value coverage “Just in Case”
  • Lowest monthly cost, higher upfront medical bills
  • Most services subject to Deductible, not Copays
  • Most covered Drugs subject to Deductible
  • Fits those who can risk spending more out of their pocket up front in return for very low premiums

Catastrophic Level

  • Available to adults under age 30 or adults experiencing some type of hardship (determined on a case by case basis)
  • First three primary care and preventive care visits covered in full before deductible
  • Not eligible for financial assistance

Who may qualify for a subsidy?

More people than ever before will qualify for financial help to pay for coverage. Depending on how much you earn, you can qualify for a free or low-cost health plan, or be eligible for financial help that can lower the cost of your premiums and copays. For example:

  • If your income is between 100 – 150% of FPL (federal poverty level), you’ll pay 6% of your health care expenses and your insurance company will cover 94%.
  • If your income is between 150 – 200% of FPL, you’ll pay 13% of your health care expenses and your insurance company will cover 87%.
  • If your income is between 200 – 250% of FPL, you’ll pay 27% of your health care expenses and your insurance company will cover 73%.
